I approach treatments as both narrative frameworks and working development documents, where conceptual clarity, structural progression, character and emotional development, pacing, thematic cohesion, and cinematic potential must be communicated with precision and purpose.
Pre-production editorial work focuses on strengthening the treatment’s narrative direction, cohesion, proportionality, and cinematic clarity while preserving the core vision and intended purpose of the project.
Services are structured according to the treatment’s current needs, stage of development, and intended direction, from initial evaluation and developmental analysis through author-led revision, reassessment, and final refinement. My work is focused on the treatment itself and its narrative development, whether it is being developed as a project document or as a foundation for subsequent screenplay development.
Editorial Evaluation
An Editorial Evaluation is a diagnostic review designed to identify the current strengths, areas of concern, and overall editorial needs of a work before deeper revision or editorial development begins.
The purpose of the evaluation is to determine what the work needs—not to provide the comprehensive analysis, detailed structural recommendations, or revision strategy of a full Developmental Edit.
Evaluation Scope
Treatments and related narrative materials are evaluated according to the length, complexity, purpose, and intended direction of the individual document. Considerations may include conceptual clarity, narrative progression, character and emotional development, structural foundation, thematic cohesion, and cinematic potential where appropriate.
You will receive:
An Editorial Evaluation Report identifying key strengths and areas of concern
High-level structural, narrative, character, and developmental observations appropriate to the form
Identification of areas warranting further attention
A recommendation for the editorial approach most appropriate to the work in its current form
An Editorial Evaluation identifies and characterizes the needs of the work. Detailed developmental analysis, extensive annotation, scene-level intervention, and comprehensive revision recommendations are reserved for Developmental Editing.
Typical Range: Treatment evaluations generally range from $200–$350.
Developmental Editing
A comprehensive developmental review focused on the conceptual, structural, narrative, emotional, and cinematic foundation of the treatment. Analysis considers narrative architecture and progression, character and emotional development, pacing and escalation, thematic cohesion, conceptual clarity, cinematic potential, and the treatment’s ability to support its intended direction and continued development.
Particular attention is given to the balance between narrative compression and sufficient development, ensuring that major characters, relationships, conflicts, and dramatic movements receive appropriate emphasis without requiring scene-level detail better suited to the screenplay itself.
You will receive:
A comprehensive Developmental Edit Report outlining the treatment’s strengths, developmental concerns, analysis, and revision recommendations
An Annotated Treatment with detailed developmental commentary
Structural, narrative, character, conceptual, and revision recommendations
This service represents a complete developmental editorial phase. Following delivery, the author undertakes revision based on the analysis and recommendations provided, either independently or with Revision Support when appropriate.

Revision Support
Revision Support provides structured editorial guidance during substantial author-led revision. It is designed for projects in which the author would benefit from continued developmental consultation while implementing revisions rather than completing the revision process entirely independently.
Each engagement begins with an agreed Revision Support Plan defining the revision goals, priorities, milestones, scope of editorial support, deliverables, and communication schedule. This creates a clear framework for the revision while allowing the work to evolve within the established scope.
Depending on the needs of the treatment, Revision Support may include developmental consultation, review of designated revised material, discussion of structural and conceptual strategies, character and emotional development, narrative progression, cinematic potential, compression and expansion considerations, milestone review, and identification of emerging concerns as revisions are implemented.
The author remains responsible for the revision itself and retains all final creative decisions. The Editor's role is to provide developmental guidance, analysis, consultation, and revision strategy throughout the agreed engagement.
You will receive:
A customized Revision Support Plan establishing goals, priorities, milestones, scope, deliverables, and communication expectations
Scheduled editorial consultation according to the agreed Support Plan
Review of designated revised material at established milestones, where included within the scope
Revision Editorial Reports documenting milestone progress, revision effectiveness, remaining developmental considerations, and recommended next priorities, where applicable
Annotated revised material with targeted developmental commentary, where included within the agreed scope
Ongoing revision guidance and clarification within the communication parameters established for the engagement
Revision Support concludes upon completion of the agreed scope, milestones, or support period. Completion of Revision Support does not independently determine whether the work is ready for refinement. Following substantial revision, a Revised Editorial Assessment may be recommended to evaluate the work as a whole and determine the appropriate next editorial stage.
Pricing: Individually scoped according to the duration of the engagement, volume of material reviewed, number and complexity of milestones, level of editorial involvement, communication schedule, and agreed deliverables.
Revised Editorial Assessment
A Revised Editorial Assessment is conducted following substantial author revision to evaluate the treatment in its revised form and determine its readiness for the next stage of editorial development.
Rather than assuming that completion of developmental revision means the treatment is ready for refinement, the assessment considers how effectively earlier developmental and conceptual concerns have been addressed, how successfully structural changes and new material have been integrated, and whether significant concerns involving narrative progression, character and emotional development, pacing, thematic cohesion, conceptual clarity, or cinematic potential remain.
The assessment serves as a decision point within the editorial process. Based on the condition and intended purpose of the revised treatment, the recommended next step may include additional author revision, further Developmental Editing, Revision Support, or progression to Treatment Refinement.
The purpose of the Revised Editorial Assessment is not to prescribe a predetermined next service, but to ensure that subsequent editorial work is appropriate to the actual needs, developmental stability, and intended direction of the treatment.

Treatment Refinement
Treatment Refinement is a direct editorial phase for treatments that have achieved sufficient developmental stability and are ready for focused narrative, conceptual, and cinematic refinement.
This service strengthens narrative clarity and focus, structural progression, character and emotional clarity, pacing, cinematic expression, proportionality, tonal continuity, and overall treatment readability while preserving the project's narrative identity and intended purpose. Editorial intervention focuses on how effectively the established story is communicated as a cohesive development document rather than undertaking foundational conceptual or developmental reconstruction.
Refinement may address narrative organization and flow, clarity and economy of language, structural progression, character motivation and emotional continuity, pacing and escalation, cinematic expression and visual storytelling, exposition, transitions, thematic and tonal integration, and the balance between narrative compression and sufficient development. Particular attention is given to ensuring that significant characters, relationships, conflicts, and dramatic movements receive appropriate narrative weight without introducing scene-level detail better reserved for subsequent screenplay development.
Where appropriate, the editorial process also addresses sentence-level clarity, grammar, punctuation, usage, and other mechanical concerns encountered during refinement. This service is not positioned as standalone copyediting or proofreading.
You will receive:
An Annotated Treatment with comprehensive tracked editorial changes and inline commentary where clarification or author consideration is required
Direct narrative, conceptual, and cinematic refinement throughout the treatment within the agreed editorial scope
A Clean Edited Treatment reflecting the completed editorial refinement
A Final Editorial Analysis Report, documenting the refinement completed and including the Final Editorial Assessment of narrative cohesion, character and emotional continuity, conceptual clarity, pacing and narrative sustainability, cinematic potential, treatment effectiveness, overall editorial condition, remaining issues, and final recommendations
The Final Editorial Assessment evaluates the treatment following completion of refinement and identifies any remaining considerations requiring author review. For treatments completing a multi-stage engagement, it also marks the conclusion of the treatment’s pre-production editorial process and assesses the work in its final editorial condition and in relation to its intended next stage. It is included as part of Treatment Refinement and is not a separate editorial service.
Treatment Refinement is appropriate for treatments whose foundational concept, structure, character development, narrative progression, and other significant developmental concerns have been sufficiently resolved. When developmental stability has not yet been established, Developmental Editing, author revision, or a Revised Editorial Assessment may be recommended before refinement begins.
